Spring in Slow Mode
Spring came in a quick burst, but in recent weeks the temperatures have been moderate, so there has been plenty of time to admire snowdrops and other spring beauties! My new border looks ok and it seems to have been a mild winter for most plants. The rabbits (of the large variety) have been the nastiest. I’m sad to see they have eaten most of my newer (of two plants) Rhododendron schlippenbachii . But otherwise, a good winter! The gardening year looks promising. In the first picture: Galanthus nivalis ‘Flore Pleno’ – they get better every year! I must remember to divide a few plants in a week or two. Hepatica…

Tulppaanien lumo – The Enchantment of Tulips
I just attended the opening of the exhibition “Tulppaanien lumo” which will run at the Botanical Gardens in Kaisanimemi until the 9th of April. It was wonderful, there is something magical about bulbs bursting into bloom in the spring and getting an advance view in a greenhouse, when there is still a meter of snow in places outside is just cool!

Woodland Joys
I haven’t really written a lot about the woodland, I was a bit too busy in the spring when it was at it’s best, but there are some good bits after that too. The woodland is situated between my garden and my parent’s garden and is a common project with my mother. We have some rhododendrons, azaleas, asters, and nice shrubs there. In the spring there are plenty of bulbs and wood anemones. Right now the fall colors are coming in, but there have been nice parts during the summer as well.

A Future Sunset Part 3
This is the last part, so here goes… In the first picture: Some Nasturtiums (Tropaeolum ‘CaribbeanCrush’ looking a bit light / hiukan vaaleana / i sin ljusaste variant) would fit the scheme / krassit sopisivat / krasse skulle passa This Hemerocallis is waiting for a move / tämä päivänlilja odottaa siirtoa / den här dagliljan väntar på flytt Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ and one of the best pictures I’ve ever taken (in 2004 or something with a very simple camera): perfectly co-operating butterflies and a really nice hybrid of Dahlia ‘Bishop’s Children’ Dahlia ’David Howard’ of course /…

A Future Sunset Part 2
The pictures were starting to pile up on my last post, so I decided to divide it into three parts. This is about the plants that I plan to include in my sunset border next year. Niitä kuvia alkoi olla aika hurjan paljon liittyen siihen mun edelliseen postaukseen, joten päätin jakaa sen kolmeen. In the first picture: I might consider…
