Fair Start
I visited Turku, the old capital last Saturday for a meeting and since I was there I decided to go to the gardening fair that was there as well. It used to be so that the “big” gardening fair was held in Turku and Helsinki on alternating years. These days Helsinki throws one each year but one that is strictly more about gardening every other year, although that might have changed. The Spring Fair as it’s now called will open this Thursday. I’m not sure I’ll even attend since I already saw the one in Turku and Helsinki will be missing some major players this year. But, if you want…

Galanthomania Now
Finally! Today the first snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis) appeared through the snow. It was sunny earlier today and that is how the snowdrops broke through the snow. I already found them in around ten different spots in the garden. Now I’ll just have to wait for some sunlight and try and follow my own advice on photographing them. These pics are a little dull, but they show snowdrops!! Vihdoinkin!

Still Cheating
There aren’t really any signs of spring here so a trip to Berlin helped. On the street crossing Schneeglöckchenstraße I saw these angels (Galanthus nivalis).

Faking Spring
I’ve been very busy indoors this winter, I’ve remodeled my home quite a bit and gardening has taken a back step (well, there are meters of snow outside so it was necessary). Finally this weekend we had some lovely sunshine and the first signs of spring could be seen in my greenhouse. Viola koreana ‘Sylvetta’ is the star of these pictures. Olen ollut melko kiireinen sisätiloissa tämän talven aika. Olen remontoinut oikein urakalla ja puutarhanhoito on luonnollisesti jäänyt hiukan taka-alalle (toisaalta metrin kinokset nyt ihan pakottivatkin siihen). Lopultakin, tämän ihanan aurinkoisen viikonlopun aikana, näin ensimmäiset kevään merkit kasvihuoneessani. Kuvien kaunotar on Viola koreana ‘Sylvetta’. Jag har varit rätt upptagen inomhus…

I’m Gardening on TV
I got a call yesterday and was asked to be on the Swedish speaking morning show Min Morgon. They were interested in current gardening tasks. It’s still very much winter here so it was either repotting, growing herbs indoors or starting plants from seed. I went with the two latter. I you are in Finland or use a VPN service like the ones my expat friends like you can see the show here until the 24th of February. I’m on at 14:40 minutes in and babble away for the next ten minutes. EDIT: You can’t see it anymore Minua pyydettiin eilen mukaan FST:n Min Morgon aamu-ohjelmaan. Heitä kiinnostivat ajankohtaiset puutarhatoimet.…
